The body is laterally compressed but with greater depth. The body surface is prominently filled with pigmentation. Irregular patches, devoid of pigmentation, are sporadically distributed on the body surface. The dorsal and anal fins are developed but rays and spines yet to develop well. The dorsal fin has a remnant of a fin fold and has a prominent dorsal spine. A pelvic flap is present with internal fixed fused spines.

2. Salient biological and ecological information
It grows to a maximum size of 120 mm in total length. The larval forms occur in Indian and Philippine mangrove waters. Little is known about the ecology and biology of this species.
