Note
Recently the species of the Ambassis genus belonging to the Family Centropomidae were separated and kept under a separate family called ‘Ambassidae’ – thus removing the long existing confusion from the ‘eco-evolution’ point of view. The members of the Family Centropomidae derived out of limited speciation and are quite large in size, have better longevity and a wider geographic distribution. On the other hand the members of the family Ambassidae are noted for rich speciation (with numerous species in a particular location), relatively less longevity and restricted geographic distribution.
