Description
Perciformes never have an adipose fin. Usually fins have spines. Pelvic fins are thoracic or jugular, at least primitively with 1 spine and 5 soft rays. The caudal fin has less than 18 principal rays. Base of pectoral fin lateral and vertical. The maxillaries are excluded from the border of the mouth by the premaxillaries. Scales, if present, are usually ctenoid.
