Description
Comprising all fishes with at least a partially bony skeleton and a sutured skull. The mouth may be variously placed, with teeth usually set in bone.
Most fishes of the Osteichthyes have a swim bladder, an organ used as a hydrostatic device or as a functional lung. Internal fertilization is relatively rare.
